Vindicator™ Laser Wind Sensor

The Vindicator™ system is a look-ahead laser wind sensor capable of measuring real-time horizontal and vertical wind speed and direction data at varying ranges ahead of its location.  The sensor design is based on state-of-the-art fiber laser technology developed and patented at Optical Air Data Systems. 

The Vindicator™ system has been licensed to Catch the Wind, Inc., which will develop, market, manufacture, and distribute the Vindicator™ for commercial applications, initially to the wind power industry. The Vindicator™ system is currently in the final stages of prototype development with a plan to begin low-rate production in early 2009.  Multiple prototypes have been developed and are undergoing extensive laboratory and field tests. 

The principal fiber laser technology behind the Vindicator system provides the basis for a suite of product configurations ranging from nacelle-mounted wind sensing systems to hand-held versions.  Several future configurations have been considered and modeled.  Click here to view the Vindicator brochure.
